The GHPTA NQT network has just completed a successful third year with a new cohort of NQTs benefiting from this professional development programme.
As a group, the NQTs came up with a list of sessions that they felt would support their development across the year. These were as follows:
- Marking, feedback and assessment
- Mastery teaching
- Behaviour management strategies and dealing with parents
- Inclusion (SEN/EAL)
- Foundation subjects
The design of the session is crucial and is based on feedback from previous cohorts. It comprises two key elements: in the first part of the session, the NQTs have the opportunity to observe practice in another school, with a clear focus on the theme of that session and their own year group.
As in previous years, the NQTs found it particularly useful to observe best practice in other schools.
