Specialist Leaders of Education – Core Training

The Core training programme is aimed at newly appointed SLEs, in order to prepare the for designation in system leadership roles in other schools. The contents will cover the following elements:

  • Our Teaching School model of school-to-school support
  • Accountability when leading a project
  • Leadership choices in system leadership, and choosing the right one
  • Case studies of previous projects led by existing SLEs
  • Coaching training
  • Managing difficult conversations
  • Staying focussed and avoiding alternative agendas

Training will be led by a team of colleagues:

  • Bob Drew (National Leader of Education and Head Teacher – Gearies Primary)
  • Gerard Durcan (Consultant and former Head Teacher)
  • Seet Ying Fan (Maths SLE – Gearies Primary)
  • Joe Wilson (Head Teacher and Science SLE – Eastbury Primary)

Training details

All training will take place in the Training Room at Gearies Primary school over three afternoon sessions, from 2:00 to 4:30pm:

Session one: Tuesday 26th June 2018

  • Model of school-to-school support
  • Leadership choices in system leadership
  • Case study of a successful project
  • Staying focussed and avoiding alternative agendas

Session Two: Monday 2nd July 2018

  • Coaching training (part one) followed by a gap task

Session Three: Tuesday 10th July 2018

  • Coaching (part two)
  • Managing difficult conversations
